For the first week in July, high pressure builds back strongly over the West. Not good news for those of you who like cooler weather. So temps next week will run about 5 – 8 degress above normal, with 103° likely in Bishop next Wednesday.

Trudy Lynn Richards November 29, 1956 – June 25, 2024

Trudy Lynn Richards passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of June 25, 2024, in her hometown of Bishop, CA, where she was surrounded by the love and comfort of her family and friends.

Trudy was born November 29, 1956, to Marian and Eldred Richards. Before settling down in her home of Bishop, CA, Trudy was a long time resident of Carson City, NV, where she worked in the Department of Motor Vehicles for over 20 years, a veteran employee. Trudy was a closet musician, playing the piano, saxophone, and even drums when the opportunity presented itself, truly a woman of many talents. She was often found either wandering her garden or at her other favorite hangout, the casino, lighting the place up with her glowing smile and radiating positivity. She was a skilled hand gamer, and even a world traveler, traveling to Australia with her family in 2003.

California Invests More than $2 Billion to Fuel Economic Opportunity, Increase Access & Protect the State’s Vital Transportation Infrastructure

SACRAMENTO — The California Transportation Commission (CTC) today approved more than $2billion to improve and maintain a transportation system that serves as the backbone for the world’s fifth largest economy. The approved funding will support the next generation of transportation projects, ranging from bridge maintenance and rail system upgrades to enhanced railroad safety features and increased access for bicyclists and pedestrians. These benefits will help power economic opportunity as well as mitigate the effects of climate change.  

The latest allocations include more than $483 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) and approximately $443 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Pizona Fire daily update June 28, 2024

Since last night, the Pizona Fire located in the Adobe Hills of Mineral County, Nevada, grew several hundred acres to 2,002 acres. The fire continues to push northeast in pinyon-juniper and sagebrush vegetation, and has just run into the 2003 Sagehen Fire burn scar.
Air tankers and helicopters will continue with dropping retardant line to reinforce perimeter lines, assisting ground crews and smokejumpers encountering access challenges in extremely rough and inaccessible terrain.

Despite this, firefighters have managed to construct hand line approximately one-half of the way up both the left and right flanks of the fire, gaining 10% containment.

Pizona Fire evening update June 27, 2024 10:00PM

Today, the Pizona Fire located in Mineral County, Nevada, grew approximately 200 acres. However due to limited visibility from smoke, a more exact acreage could not be determined.
Air tankers and helicopters worked to drop retardant line around most of the fire’s perimeter, with the most active flank of the fire being on the east side.
No bulldozers have been ordered for this incident due to the logistics and inaccessibility of the roadways, in addition to the potential for cultural resource impacts.
The fire is still currently located within the Inyo National Forest boundary, and has not yet reached the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest or Bureau of Land Management lands
